Charlotte Lyras

FEI Junior Rider

Making Her Way Up the Dressage Ladder

Just over 11 years ago, Charlotte was introduced to the world of horses by her mom. At just three years of age, she sat proudly a top a purebred Arabian and entered the show ring for the first time riding in a lead line class. That was it, she was hooked.

Her curiosity, intrigue and love of these magnificent animals quickly grew and the time had come to buy Charlotte her first horse.

After purchasing Eddie, Charlotte dipped her toes in the Hunter world however, before she could travel too far down that road, Charlotte’s mom happened to show her a video of an Olympic dressage rider performing a musical freestyle. Charlotte was immediately smitten and it was in that moment she shifted her focus and began to study the art of dressage and hasn’t looked back since.

Fast-forward four years, Charlotte’s goals have continually grown. Step one of Charlotte’s plan is to ride at the FEI junior level. From there, qualify and secure a spot on the North American Youth Canadian dressage team and finally, the 2032 Summer Olympic Games!

Charlotte’s road has not been an easy one. Due to financial limitations, a ready made dressage school master was not feasible to purchase for Charlotte. Each horse that Charlotte acquired has come with their own set of quirks, training issues or inexperience. It is because of these challenges, Charlotte has gained valuable experience working with these challenging horses. She has worked tirelessly training, correcting and bringing these horses along and finding much success in doing so.

These challenges have not diminished Charlotte’s desire to aim for the top. In fact, it has done the opposite. It has fueled a fire deep inside her to become the best in her sport. She’s learned firsthand what hard work, consistency and a little faith will bring.

In 2024–2025, Charlotte had the opportunity to lease Dino, a talented schoolmaster who helped her take her riding career to new heights. Together, they had a whirlwind season — earning titles such as #1 Ranked Gold FEI Junior Rider in Canada, Gold FEI Junior Freestyle National Champion, and multiple regional championships. Their partnership was a turning point in Charlotte’s career, proving her ability to compete and succeed at the highest levels of junior dressage.

As of fall 2025, Charlotte’s lease with Dino has ended, marking the close of a very special chapter. While saying goodbye was bittersweet, it has opened the door to her next goal: purchasing a horse of her own. With her determination, discipline, and the invaluable experience gained from riding Dino, Charlotte is ready to build a long-term partnership that will carry her to the next stage of her journey.

Charlotte’s story is one of perseverance, passion, and possibility. Supported by her coaches, family, and community, she is closer than ever to her dreams — and the future has never looked brighter.
